Summary of

Job Duties

The Department of World Languages invites applications for a full‑time assistant professor in Spanish and Second Language Pedagogy. We envision a colleague who will contribute, through teaching, service, and research, to our commitment to student success and to our department’s aspirational statement: “Let your vision be world‑embracing.” Primary responsibilities include teaching all levels of undergraduate Spanish language and culture as well as undergraduate courses in second language acquisition, methodology and assessment.

The successful candidate will teach both in‑person and online courses, for a total of 24 credits per year (12 per semester). This position reports to the Head of the World Languages Department.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach all levels of undergraduate Spanish, both in person and online.
  • Teach asynchronous online second language instruction (TESL/TESOL) courses.
  • Develop an active scholarship/research agenda.
  • Support students outside of the classroom by serving as advisor to student organizations, supervising student research, leading international study experiences, or collaborating in other high‑impact experiences.
  • Provide service to the department, college, and university.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve on the Editorial Board of Azahares, the award‑winning departmental creative literary journal.
  • Collaborate in recruitment activities.
  • Participate in outreach to the Latino/Hispanic communities in our area.
  • Contribute to curriculum development in the department.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Education and/or

Work Experience:

Ph.D. in Spanish Language, Second Language Pedagogy or TESOL, or other related field.

Preferred Education and/or

Work Experience:

Experience working in higher education.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Native or near‑native fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Proven excellence in teaching.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work well with others.
