• Monitor rolling mill for surface quality, bar size, length, and temperature.
• Observe casting and melt shop operations—choking, lancing, AC 3 temps, cast speed, and bar counts.
• Ensure melt shop chemistry specifications and degassing requirements are met.
• Record and monitor production practices, participate in failure analysis and recommend improvements.
• Identify and deliver samples for testing to the machine shop for rolled and cast product.
• Post data and observations to a metallurgical report for disposition.

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum two years of steel mill or related experience.
• Strong aptitude for working with computers and sensitive technical instruments.
• Capability to calibrate and standardize vacuum spectrograph and carbon‑sulfur determinator.
• General knowledge of steel processing, electric‑arc furnace operation, and basic metallurgical components of high‑carbon and alloy steel.
