Job Description & How to Apply Below
Location: Fort Snelling Unorganized Territory

We are partnering with an established and growing mechanical contracting organization to hire a Senior VDC Technician for its expanding Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team. This position offers an opportunity to work at the intersection of 3D modeling, construction coordination, prefabrication, and field installation, helping translate engineering designs into detailed, fabrication-ready models and drawings. Unlike a traditional drafting position, you'll work closely with Project Managers, engineers, field foremen, and installation crews to ensure that what gets modeled can actually be built efficiently in the field.

The organization continues to invest in its VDC capabilities and prefabrication operations, creating a strong opportunity for an experienced technician who wants meaningful project ownership and a potential path into VDC leadership. The Opportunity As a Senior VDC Technician, you'll develop and coordinate detailed mechanical and plumbing models that support construction and prefabrication. You'll work with Autodesk Revit, Autodesk Fabrication, Navisworks, and specialized spooling software to create coordinated models, shop drawings, spool drawings, and material documentation.

You'll also participate in coordination meetings, identify clashes before construction, collaborate with field teams, and help establish best practices as the VDC department continues to grow. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys the technical side of BIM but also wants to see their work come to life through real-world construction.

Responsibilities
  • What You'll Be Doing Mechanical & Plumbing BIM Modeling Develop detailed LOD 400 mechanical and plumbing models using Autodesk Fabrication for Revit

  • Maintain accurate coordination documentation and communicate design changes
  • Prefabrication & Field Collaboration Support prefabrication planning and model-to-shop workflows
  • Coordinate with pipe fitting, plumbing, and sheet metal teams to ensure models support efficient fabrication and installation
  • Visit active construction sites for field surveys, quality-control checks, and installation coordination
  • Work with field foremen to troubleshoot installation challenges
  • Identify opportunities to improve prefabrication efficiency and reduce field rework
  • Project & Technical Support Partner with Project Managers on RFIs, change orders, and preconstruction reviews
  • Assist engineering teams with production drawings, submittals, and equipment coordination
  • Manage modeling deliverables across multiple active projects
  • Contribute to VDC standards, databases, workflows, and process improvements
  • Help mentor developing technicians and support the continued growth of the VDC department
Qualifications
