Parking Services Specialist – Fort Valley State University (FVSU)
Job Summary
The Parking Services Specialist ensures that parking policies are established and followed, and assists in all areas of parking needs for the university. This position reports to the FVSU Campus Police & Safety unit to ensure that parking rules and regulations are adhered to by the campus community. In addition to other duties as assigned, the role may require cross‑training in other positions to provide backup for the department and supplement resources during peak times.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities
- Collaborate with administrative staff to ensure parking policies and procedures meet expectations and standards.
- Maintain databases to provide accurate information and weekly reports.
- Review and verify documentation for completeness and compliance with policies.
- Compile and verify weekly/monthly reports within specified deadlines.
- Manage accounts payable for all purchases.
- Manage invoicing to third‑party vendors and ensure timely payment.
- Approve and reconcile financial journals for special events and other purchases.
- Assist with contractor and bulk parking permit sales and other elevated projects beyond day‑to‑day sales.
- Assist with towing and booting of vehicles in FVSU parking lots.
- Assist FVSU public safety officers and security guards as needed.
- Assist with various citation collection efforts as directed by management.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Education or GED required.
- Valid Georgia driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent decision‑making skills and the ability to act quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience, preferably in parking.
- Knowledge of laws, rules, regulations, and policies applicable to parking services.
- Ability to operate efficiently in a fast‑paced, changing environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Experience working on a college campus.
Additional Knowledge Required
- Work with community to further institutional goals, preferably in an educational environment.
- Exercise self‑restraint and maintain composure under pressure or adverse conditions.
- Operate with limited supervision and maintain self‑directed job functions.
- Make sound decisions based on good judgment regularly.
- Skill in conflict resolution, avoidance, and exemplary public relations.
Complexity / Scope of Work
- Work performed primarily outdoors, potentially exposing employee to extreme weather conditions.
- Potential exposure to dangerous interpersonal situations requiring safety precautions.
- Weekend, holiday, and shift work may be required.
- Must understand the role of a non‑sworn guard in supporting the FVSU police unit and recognize when to summon police, fire, or EMS assistance.
Physical Demands / Work Environment
- Physical exertion including bending, reaching, stooping, lifting, pushing, pulling, etc.
- Long periods of walking, standing, and sitting.
- Ability to defend oneself or a member of the community in exigent circumstances.
