Fort Valley State University, the only 1890 land‑grant university in Georgia, is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2,800 students, including graduate students. Job SummaryTeaches courses in the discipline area of Political Science. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensure student engagement. Provides advisement and academic support to students, maintains class‑related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities- Teaches a typical load of 12 semester‑hours of undergraduate courses each semester in Political Science in face‑to‑face, hybrid, and online formats.
- Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensure student engagement.
- Provides advisement and academic support to students.
- Maintains class‑related records and assesses student performance.
- Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co‑curricular activities.
- Participates in departmental, college, and university‑required activities.
- Requires a master’s degree, including 18 credit hours in Political Science or a related field.
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate level in traditional classroom settings and/or a demonstrated interest in scholarship to seek publications in refereed journals and other scholarly outlets.
- Commitment to student engagement and academic ability.
- Ability to communicate effectively, participate in departmental and university activities, and mentor students.
- Earned PhD from an accredited institution.
- Three or more years of teaching experience.
- Proven track record in scholarship, including publications and grant writing experience.
- Experience mentoring undergraduate students.
- Interest in collaborating across departments or programs.
- Skills in engaging students to develop enhanced critical thinking abilities and effective communication at all levels.
- Normal office environment within a university setting, providing both in‑person and online instruction. Utilizes standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, and email, along with technology‑based learning materials and learning management systems.
- Standing and/or sitting for extended periods while instructing and/or engaging in meetings.
