JOB SUMMARYFort Valley State University Cooperative Extension Program (FVSU-CEP) is an educational resource dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Georgians and beyond through researched based initiatives and programs. The Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) area focuses on helping families acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and changed behavior necessary to build strong resilient families. Our content areas include human/child development, parenting, health management/wellness, heirs' property, and energy efficiency.
Fort Valley State University's Cooperative Extension Program is seeking a Vaccination Outreach Educator. The incumbent will be part of the Extension Collaborative on Immunization Teaching and Engagement (EXCITE), focusing on adult immunization education. This position will be based in Fort Valley, Georgia with a multi-state region responsibility serving Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Position objectivesAt the community level the incumbent will increase the public confidence in vaccination for adults.
- Will increase their knowledge of and ability to educate communities using a model for making sustainable health decisions.
- Expand and strengthen community partnership with health departments, healthcare providers, and community-based organizations depending on the needs of the communities.
- Integrate vaccine education across program areas with their Extension colleagues, community health workers and volunteers as a core part of Cooperative Extension ongoing outreach.
- Primary audiences include rural individuals, including but not limited to farmers and migrant labor, pregnant people, adolescents and young adults, rural and local healthcare and community service providers, volunteers and other trained community messengers, and seniors.
- 50% - Provide immunization education in Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, and South Carolina. This will include incorporating at least one curriculum identified from the EXCITE Adult Immunization Awareness and Education Integration Projects under development.
- 25% - Provide leadership and professional development to Extension professionals in the region. This will include how to integrate immunization education into existing work and into volunteer and/or community health worker training curricula.
- 15% - Provide personal professional development, scholarships, program evaluation and report.
- 10% - Develop and maintain immunization community partnerships at community, regional, or state levels.
- Collaborate with county staff, program leadership, other health-oriented campus departments, medical, federal, state, and local agencies to address chronic disease, obesity prevention and health equity and its associated health problems for program implementation with Mobile Health Unit.
- Deliver training and educational support material for county-based staff and their clientele and vaccination information consistent with individual and community public health through policy, systems, and environmental changes (PSE's).
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Travel requires some overnight travel for training/conferences.
- Evening/night/weekend work occasionally.
- Working outdoors occasionally at health fairs/exhibits, farmers markets, and community events.
- The employee is required to sit and utilize a computer/monitor with ease.
- Required to stand or walk (i.e., some Extension Programs, deliveries to other departments) occasionally. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- May lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds.
- Master of Science degree in health-related field, human nutrition, public health or health education, chronic disease prevention, food science or related field relevant to the position or bachelor's degree in health-related field, human nutrition, public health or health education, chronic disease prevention, food science or related field relevant to the role of the position with two years' experience in health-related field.
