Fort Valley State University (FVSU), a state and land‑grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Substitute Teacher.

Responsibilities- Under general supervision, maintain a developmentally appropriate classroom setting, keep confidential files on all children, correspond with parents and work with parents.
- Teach planned lessons as outlined for the classroom.
- Maintain a positive relationship with parents, both formally and informally, individually or in groups when needed.
- Submit appropriate incident/accident reports when needed.
- Provide for the health, safety and welfare of all children in the classroom setting.
- Under general direction of the ECE Manager, maintain attendance roster.
- Under general direction of the ECE Manager, and if serving as a long‑term substitute, maintain individual files on all children and complete an initial screening on all children.
- Provide an environment that reflects the cultures of all children in the program in an integrated way.
- Provide supervision and guidance to all children.
- Display a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operate effectively within the organizational structure and be inclusive of children with special needs and disabilities.
- Operate effectively within the organizational structure and be inclusive of children with disabilities.
- Serve as a bus monitor, team leader and perform other duties as assigned to ensure program compliance.
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
- Add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Possess a minimum of a CDA in Infant and Child Development, Early Childhood Education or a related area.
- Significant experience and alternative training in early child care and development may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Experience with children aged 3–5 years.
- Current CPR and First Aid certificates are desired.
- Adherence to NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct.
- Must be willing to work at any of the centers within the program whenever needed.
- Must be flexible and able to work anytime between Monday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Must be able to work indoors as well as transition the classroom to outdoors.
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases.
- Possible exposure to blood and bodily fluids or tissues.
- Job requires sitting for long periods during planning and reporting and standing for long periods during observations and training, as well as stooping, squatting and running.
- Must be able to occasionally lift 20 pounds overhead and 40 pounds from waist to shoulder.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distant and color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
