Overview
The purpose of the position is to perform all audio engineering functions related to the Stage, Lobby, and Multi‑Purpose Room, at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center (“LPAC”), under the general supervision of the General Manager or designee. Employees in this classification perform skilled functions on an on‑call/temporary basis. Position is responsible for managing sound quality for both playback and live performance, troubleshooting all audio issues within the facility, maintaining and repairing all house audio equipment/hardware, directing Stage Crew, and performing general duties, including but not limited to load‑in, set‑up, strike and load‑out.

- Designs, installs, and operates audio systems, including microphones, speakers, mixing consoles, and playback devices.
- Ensures proper signal flow, balancing, and tuning of the audio system for optimal performance.
- Troubleshoots and resolves any technical issues during rehearsals and performances.
- Programs and operates performances, including dialogue, music, and sound effects, ensuring clear and balanced audio.
- Programs and operates digital and analog mixing consoles; operates and oversees the operation of Yamaha CL1, Yamaha QL5 and various other mixing consoles at all events within the facility, as well as interacting with Aviom and Dante digital network systems.
- Manages audio playback for sound cues and special effects.
- Manages the setup, placement, and operation of wired and wireless microphones for performers and musicians; communicates effectively with performers regarding microphone placement and yes sound‑related concerns.
- Trains performers and crew members on proper microphone handling and usage.
- Collaborates with staff and stakeholders to achieve the desired audio aesthetic; ensures the integration of audio elements seamlessly.
- Inspects, maintains, and repairs audio equipment to ensure reliability; advises Production Manager of necessary repairs/replacements or equipment upgrades within the audio inventory to ensure maximum efficiency and smooth operations.
- Maintains proper inventory of all sound equipment and manages rentals when needed.
- Implements best practices for cable management, storage, and system organization.
- Adheres to all theatre safety protocols, including hearing protection and equipment handling.
- Ensures compliance with local regulations for sound levels and wireless frequency licensing; ensures stage related safety precautions.
- Provides professional, customer‑focused, welcoming service.
- Maintains a physical presence at the work location; maintains punctuality and works a flexible schedule including night, weekend, holidays and events.
- Assists with load‑in, setup, strike, and load‑out of shows using the stage.
- Assists with special event set‑up and break down in the lobby, as directed.
- Trains staff on proper handling of sound/audio equipment; oversees stage crew handling sound engineering.
- Performs related work as required.
- High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution; AND
- Six (6) months of experience engineering live sound; AND
- A valid State of Florida Driver’s License.
If no applicants meet the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education, training, experience, and preferred qualifications may be considered.
Preferred QualificationsAssociate’s degree in Theatre Design/Technology, Fine Arts, or closely related field.
