Position: Police Service Aide I

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for all components of the Lauderhill Police Department as needed.
  • Perform non‑routine clerical, investigative and minor police‑related duties.
  • Prepare police reports, respond to calls for assistance, investigate motor‑vehicle crashes, and issue traffic and parking citations.
  • Patrol in marked Police Service Aide units and answer calls for service.
  • Investigate traffic crashes, including hit‑and‑run follow‑up investigations.
  • Investigate minor property crimes such as thefts, criminal mischief, vehicle burglaries, frauds, auto thefts, and miscellaneous non‑violent calls.
  • Prepare incident reports and assist with traffic control.
  • Transport documents and evidence to and from court, the lab, and the police department.
  • Issue citations for parking and other infractions of the law.
  • Conduct crime‑prevention awareness programs for public and private groups.
  • Assist at crime scenes and at special activities or events.
  • Process minor crime scenes for evidence and deploy/retrieve department equipment.
  • Attend and testify at court, and give depositions when subpoenaed.
  • Enter and cancel information on the teletype machine.
  • Accept and process subpoenas for sworn and non‑sworn personnel.
  • Research and provide information to staff and the public.
  • Prepare periodic reports and logs such as vehicle inspection logs, daily logs, and overtime slips.
  • Attend seminars and classes to maintain or improve technical and professional skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED
Special Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid State of Florida Driver's License
  • Successfully completed and passed the State of Florida Criminal Justice Basic Abilities Test (CJBAT) OR possess an Associate's Degree or higher
  • Ability to complete and pass the Police Service Aide Academy and the City of Lauderhill's Police Department's Field Training Program
