Diesel Technician/Mechanic III - Entry Level

As a Technician at Penske, you’ll perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on a diverse fleet of vehicles, ensuring safety and reliability. Whether you’re fresh out of school or have some repair experience, this position offers growth, training, and industry certifications.

Main Responsibilities
  • Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for customers.
  • Use Penske’s tools and technologies to log, research, and complete repairs, including basic diagnostics.
  • Perform preventative maintenance such as tire replacement/rotation, component lubrication, electrical system repairs, and cooling system maintenance on gas and diesel engines.
  • Partner with your manager to learn new skills through Penske’s technician training and hands‑on coaching.
  • Work on additional projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and 1–2 years of automotive or diesel repair experience (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Problem‑solving skills and comfort using tools.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Willingness to understand and comply with Penske safety and maintenance policies, including DOT, OSHA, and other regulations.
  • Full attendance and punctuality required.
  • Capability to maintain a DOT driver qualification file and comply with all driving regulations, including MVR, DOT physical, and safety performance records.
  • Willingness to work required schedule, location, and travel for training.
Physical Requirements
  • Move frequently, stand, walk, climb, bend, and sit for extended periods during work hours.
  • Use hands to grasp, reach, touch, and operate tools and controls.
  • Work safely at heights using ladders or platforms.
  • Work in all weather conditions.
  • See and hear well to navigate busy workplace.
  • Regularly lift or move up to 50 lbs/23 kg, sometimes up to 100 lbs/45 kg; frequently push/pull tires exceeding 100 lbs.
