Overview

Systems Engineering is a cross-functional discipline that combines technical and business perspectives through a structured approach, mindset, and process. It focuses on delivering high-quality solutions that meet user needs by balancing both customer requirements and technical feasibility.

This discipline involves a robust process that spans from concept through production to operation. Key activities include:

  • Identifying and quantifying system requirements
  • Developing and evaluating alternative design concepts
  • Performing design trade-offs and selecting optimal solutions
  • Implementing, verifying, and integrating the chosen design

The role may include planning and executing departmental operations or leading activities within a specific technical domain. While the work is guided by established policies and expected outcomes, there is flexibility to adapt processes and practices—so long as the final results meet quality, timeline, and performance standards.

Responsibilities
  • Independently perform in depth system studies listed below and/or specify scope, review, comment, direct/oversee 3rd party provider(s) for the studies below:
    • Load Flow / Power Flow, Reactive Capability and Reactive Compensation, Power Factor Study
    • Dynamic Performance Studies (DPS) and other design studies using both offline and online simulation tools.
    • Power System Dynamic Simulation
    • Short circuit analysis
    • Combined Short Circuit Ratio (CSCR) Evaluation
    • Transient Switching and Insulation Coordination Study
    • Transient Recovery Voltage (TRV) Analysis
    • Delayed Current Zero Analysis
    • Harmonic Distortion Study
    • Harmonic Stability Study
  • Overall System Performance Assessment Study
  • Expertise in system tools like PSCAD, PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, EMTP, ASPEN, ETAP, EMTP, TARA, Dig Silent Power Factory, to perform system studies as detailed above or under desired characteristics section.
  • Excellent Technical Communication skills to provide guidance, analysis and reports in clear succinct manner to customers, project team and stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and coordinate the engineering tasks to meet the project/tender requirement.
  • Technical responsibility in areas of expertise
  • Be innovative, develop and industrialize solutions tools and processes associated with system studies
  • Be actively involved in new developments in HVDC technologies, implementing control and protection solutions and creating / delivering new analysis techniques and system study tools to provide optimized system study solutions.
  • Process Improvement:
    Review and record design processes and develop new or improved processes.
  • Enforce engineering discipline and set processes across all work tasks and adherence to company policies, quality procedures and work instructions (e.g., through trainings, technical reviews).
  • Represent the business in external events by publishing technical papers.
  • Apply yourself towards improving your technical knowledge base and keep abreast of relevant methodologies and technological advancement within the Company.
  • Support and mentor other engineers to increase the team’s technical knowledge and competence.
  • Report or resolve any non-conformances in a timely manner.
  • Actively participate in defining corrective actions when work is unsafe or when an uncontrolled risk is observed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience of network or transient studies for HVDC/FACTS/Renewable Energy/Inverter based Power Systems in offshore wind, industrial, utility substations or grid interconnects.
  • Minimum 5 years working knowledge of the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) compliance requirements and/or ISOs’ interconnection or transmission planning guidelines. Familiarity with NERC standards such as TPL, MOD, and PRC
  • Minimum 5 years familiarity with ISOs such as PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, CAISO, ISO-NE, NYISO
  • Able and willing to travel 20% including international and comply with GE travel guidelines.
