Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

Summary

Operates diagnostic sonography equipment and performs diagnostic imaging procedures in accordance with department policy and procedures. Operates within the "Practice Standards" and "Code of Ethics" of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. Works with physicians to perform a variety of specialized procedures. Sets up and adjusts equipment to perform diagnostic procedures, and has knowledge of imaging various anatomical structures. Positions patients to obtain images of the area of interest, respecting patient comfort.

Obtains appropriate patient information for the procedure; utilizes PPE and other guidelines as needed. Recognizes emergent situations and activates assistance as needed. Assists other areas and shifts as needed.

Satisfactory completion of formal technology training.

Registered or registry eligible by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or American Registry of Radiologic Technology in ultrasound (ARRT ultrasound). Must obtain valid certification within 12 months of graduation from an approved ultrasound training program or completion of approved cross training (advanced certifications encouraged). CPR certification required.

Previous experience in ultrasound preferred, but not required; previous experience in a similar role acceptable.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs., or 100 lbs. with shared lifting. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Working knowledge of general computer skills and applications. Ability to take calls. Demonstrated ability to multi‑task, work independently using critical thinking skills.
