Job Summary
The Neurophysiology Technologist performs diagnostic neurophysiological procedures, including electroencephalograms (EEGs) and nerve conduction studies (NCS), under the direction of a physician. This role is responsible for preparing patients, collecting accurate data, and ensuring quality recordings that support clinical interpretation and patient care. The Neurophysiology Technologist supports departmental operations through documentation, equipment maintenance, and patient communication, and may assist physicians with clinical procedures and administrative tasks.
Essential Functions
- Performs EEGs, nerve conduction studies, and other neurophysiological procedures according to professional standards and physician instructions.
- Prepares patients for procedures, explains processes clearly, and ensures patient comfort and safety throughout testing.
- Obtains accurate and thorough patient medical histories relevant to the procedures being performed.
- Conducts specialized tests such as electro cerebral silence (ECS) evaluations under appropriate supervision.
- Evaluates the validity and quality of recordings throughout each procedure, recognizing and resolving technical artifacts.
- Maintains and troubleshoots equipment and supplies, ensuring functionality and cleanliness in accordance with infection control and safety protocols.
- Documents patient information, procedure details, and test results in alignment with hospital and regulatory standards.
- Assists with administrative tasks, including scheduling, charge entry, and maintenance of procedural logs and files.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- 0-1 years of experience performing EEGs, nerve conduction studies, or other neurodiagnostic procedures required.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Understanding of neurodiagnostic principles, patient monitoring, and technical troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with ASET standards and neurophysiological recording protocols.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly in patient identification and data accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with clinical teams.
- Strong communication and patient service skills, especially in high-anxiety situations.
- Knowledge of infection prevention and safety protocols.
- Proficiency in using neurodiagnostic software and electronic health record systems.
Licenses and Certifications
- R-EEGT - Registered Electroencephalographic Technician required.
- BCLS - Basic Life Support required.
