Southwest Allen County Schools (SACS) is seeking an experienced and forward‑thinking Director of Maintenance to lead district‑wide maintenance operations and ensure that all SACS buildings and grounds are safe, efficient, and supportive of high‑quality learning environments.

Position: Director of Maintenance | Full‑Time / 12‑Month Position

Reports to: COO

Salary Range: $84,000 – $114,000 (based on experience)

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Supervision
  • Provide direction and oversight to maintenance, grounds, courier, pool, skilled trades personnel, and building maintenance supervisors.
  • Co‑supervise building custodial staff in partnership with principals.
  • Lead staff evaluations, coaching, assignments, and recruitment processes.
  • Coordinate training for maintenance and custodial staff, including safety, equipment use, and chemical handling.
  • Assign and coordinate on‑call personnel for emergencies.
Maintenance Operations
  • Plan, schedule, and oversee all district maintenance, construction, repair, and work‑order activities.
  • Conduct routine inspections with administrators and building supervisors.
  • Ensure buildings meet operational standards for cleanliness, safety, security, and functionality.
  • Manage preventive maintenance programs and long‑term equipment/life‑cycle plans.
Budget & Purchasing
  • Recommend and support development of the annual maintenance budget.
  • Manage vendor relationships, purchasing needs, bids, and quotations.
  • Oversee inventory control for maintenance supplies, chemicals, equipment, radios, and vehicles.
Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including ADA, asbestos, OSHA, blood borne pathogens, and mechanical system inspections.
  • Advise district leadership of safety concerns related to buildings, grounds, and equipment.
Construction, Renovation & Grounds
  • Assist in the supervision and planning of renovation, remodeling, and construction projects.
  • Recommend priorities for capital and major repair projects.
  • Oversee outdoor grounds projects, including pavement, drainage, bleachers, and mowing.
HVAC & Energy Management
  • Supervise building HVAC operations to maintain appropriate temperatures.
  • Collaborate with the Energy Manager to support efficient system performance and energy conservation.
  • Support boiler safety and operational oversight in partnership with the HVAC supervisor.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Oversee internal deliveries of supplies, equipment, and materials requiring special handling.
  • Coordinate snow removal operations.
  • Attend board meetings and professional development events as needed.
  • Build strong, professional relationships with staff, vendors, and community partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by district leadership.
Required Qualifications
  • Leadership experience in facilities, maintenance management, or related operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, and general maintenance systems.
  • Proven ability to supervise, evaluate, and lead employees at multiple worksites.
  • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and respond effectively to emergencies.
  • Valid Indiana Driver’s License.
  • Ability to quickly learn and use facility management software related to inventory, scheduling, budgeting, and work orders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in management, business, engineering, structural design, or a related field preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • Work involves both indoor and outdoor environments and may include exposure to variable temperatures and noise levels.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, bend, lift, and perform physical tasks associated with building inspections and maintenance oversight.
