About the Job:
The Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse works under the direction of a qualified professional nurse. Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, within the objectives, standards, and policies of the department and within the parameters of the licensing board. Communicates and works collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary team i.e., medical staff, administration, clinicians, dietitians, and milieu personnel. Takes reasonable care and precautions to ensure high client safety standards and a therapeutic environment exist.
- Provide direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of clients under the supervision of a registered professional nurse, while maintaining client safety and following unit and facility policies and procedures.
- Assist in relevant health and psychiatric teaching for client and family. Serve as a role model for clients and peers.
- Share responsibility for planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care plans and nursing care.
- Effectively communicate with the medical staff, receive verbal/written orders, and participate in team conferences to share knowledge and ideas among team members.
- Prepare, administer, control, and accurately record medications according to facility policy, with documentation of effects and adverse effects.
- Observe, document, and report to the RN in charge any clinical, unit, or personnel issues that could affect client care. Report status changes and concerns to RNs and doctors; coordinate with all departments to ensure total quality client care.
- Consult, follow, and document nursing care according to facility policy; record client symptoms, responses, and progress concisely and accurately.
- Safely perform vital signs, EKGs, phlebotomy/labs, and diabetic/glucose monitoring; interpret results and take appropriate nursing action.
- Provide coverage in emergency services as needed.
- Graduation from an approved Licensed Practical/Vocational Nursing Program required.
- One or more years of nursing experience within the clinical area of service provided by the facility preferred.
- Knowledge of and experience with psychotropic medications and medication administration procedures.
- Ability to apply nursing standards and practice within a recovery setting.
- Valid current practical/vocational nursing license from the state or a nurse compact state, where applicable.
- CPR and de-escalation certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
