Summary

The RN is responsible for providing direct nursing care to residents and supervising the daily nursing activities performed by nursing assistants. Supervision must align with federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations, as may be required by the Director of Nursing to maintain the highest degree of quality care.

• Direct the day‑to‑day functions of the nursing assistants. Meet with assigned nursing staff and support personnel to plan the shift’s services, programs, and activities. Provide written and oral reports concerning the activities of the shift as required.
• Admit, transfer and discharge residents as required; provide leadership to nursing personnel assigned to the unit/shift.
• Complete and file required record‑keeping forms/charts upon the resident’s admission, transfer, and/or discharge. Receive and transcribe telephone orders from physicians and record them on the Physician’s Order Form. Chart nurse’s notes informatively, describing the care provided and the resident’s response. Fill out and submit accident/incident reports to the Director as required.
• Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
• Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter‑departmental personnel and other departments to ensure nursing services and activities are adequately maintained. Create and maintain a warm, positive atmosphere and a calm environment throughout the unit and shift. Receive and give the nursing report at shift change. Make rounds with physicians as necessary.
• Administer professional services such as catheterization, tube feedings, suction, dressing changes, colostomy and drainage bag management, blood draws, massages, and range‑of‑motion exercises, etc., as required.
• Monitor assigned personnel to ensure adherence to safety regulations regarding equipment and supplies.
• Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information, including protected health information. Report any known or suspected incidents of unauthorized disclosure. Ensure privacy in nursing care and request permission before entering a resident’s room.
• Provide IV and IV site care as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Registered Nurse with a current unencumbered state license.
• Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
• Able to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
• Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
• Current CPR certification is required.
• Experience in long‑term care is preferred.

• Move intermittently throughout the workday.
• Cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
• Meet general health requirements, including a medical and physical examination.
• Push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight a distance of 50 feet.
• Assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations if necessary.
