In the role of Part Time Assistant Supervisor – Assistant Boat Administrator at the City of Fort Wayne, you will be instrumental in developing and coordinating a variety of engaging programs and events for Sweet Breeze, boat operations, and Lindenwood Nature Preserve. This includes organizing specialty tours, educational field trips, festivals, open houses, and private rentals that highlight the beauty of outdoor recreation and boating.
Additionally, you will perform Deckhand duties for Sweet Breeze, assisting with essential tasks such as tying the boat to the dock, setting up tables, checking in customers, and directing contractors and caterers during events. Your creativity will shine as you design digital content for renters, producing slideshows, exhibits, and social media posts that promote the joy of outdoor recreation and boating, ensuring a memorable experience for all participants.
To thrive as a Part Time Assistant Supervisor – Assistant Boat Administrator at the City of Fort Wayne, candidates should possess a high school diploma, with a preference for those holding a four‑year college degree in a related field. A minimum of two years of event programming experience, along with familiarity with downtown Fort Wayne Rivers, will be beneficial. Effective oral and written communication skills are essential, as is the ability to engage professionally with the public.
Candidates must demonstrate flexibility with scheduling, working weekends and holidays as needed. Physical demands include the ability to hike up to 4 miles per day, operate power and hand tools, and perform outdoor skills such as kayaking and fire building. Additionally, candidates must be capable of driving department vehicles, possess certification in First Aid and CPR, and complete necessary training such as the Indiana Boating Safety Course, to ensure safety during outdoor recreation and boating programs.
Knowledge and skills required for the position are:- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Four‑year college degree in a related field of study is preferred
- At least two years of previous event programming experience
- Experience with downtown Fort Wayne Rivers preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
- Ability to communicate effectively and/or professionally with the public
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, mornings, evenings, and holidays to suit program needs
- Ability to hike up to 4 miles per day
- Knowledge and use of power and hand tools, basic construction skills and outdoor skills such as fire building, lashing, cooking, hiking, and kayaking
- Ability to drive department vehicles and utility vehicles
- Certified in First Aid and CPR by the American Heart Association within two weeks of employment (provided by the City’s Risk Management Department)
- Bloodborne pathogen training
- Indiana Boating Safety Course Certificate
- Valid Indiana Driver’s License if City of Fort Wayne vehicle is used
