ALL ABOUT VISUAL MERCHANDISING

The Visual Merchandiser supports a great guest experience by ensuring visual moments are set and maintained to the company guides and visual standards to drive sales and inspire guests. They are experts in visual presentation, including elevated merchandising techniques, mannequin styling, mapping and fixture blocking, and In‑Store Marketing (ISM) elements.

Learning Opportunities

As a Visual Merchandiser, you will develop skills in retail business fundamentals, sales trend analysis, inventory management, guest shopping patterns, pricing and promotion strategies, daily and weekly workload planning, staff training, and visual merchandising strategy implementation.

Typical Responsibilities
  • Plan daily/weekly visual workload with leader guidance to include sales goals, events, and promotions.
  • Execute weekly visual assessments and partner with leaders to improve store visual execution and guest experience.
  • Assess and guide the execution of visual standards across the store to elevate visual presentations.
  • Support the execution of the company Visual Merchandising strategy, visual standards, and In‑Store Marketing across all pertinent areas of the store.
  • Validate the execution of all visual presentations in partnership with leaders.
  • Set overhead spotlights to highlight key merchandising presentations.
  • With leader guidance, solve merchandising issues and adjust sets to maintain inspiring presentations.
  • Teach team members daily visual standards, signage and affordability strategy, and how to create inspiring visual moments.
  • Maintain organization of back‑room space and keep current signing tools and fixtures. Set all non‑planogram ISM elements throughout the store.
  • Communicate and support team onboarding, continuous learning, and help close knowledge and skill gaps through training.
  • Demonstrate inclusivity, authentic integrity, and respect to create equitable experiences.
  • Show ethical conduct, safety and compliance at all times.
  • Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests during daily tasks.
  • Engage guests in a welcoming way to solve specific needs when asked.

What We Are Looking For
  • You enjoy interacting and helping others—guests and team members alike.
  • You thrive in a fast‑moving, highly active, physically demanding role where teamwork, flexibility, and creative problem‑solving are key.
  • You are open to a flexible schedule with varying hours, days or shifts (including nights, weekends, holidays and peak times).
  • You possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 1–2 years of visual merchandising experience.
  • Business acumen (margin, profitability) and creativity to inspire guests and drive sales.
  • Strong understanding of trend and style reflective of Target’s brand.
  • Ability to lead and influence store teams to follow visual merchandising processes.
  • Proficiency with handheld scanners and other technology as directed.
  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills and focus in a fast‑paced environment.
Expectations & Physical Demands
  • Access all building areas to respond to guest or team member issues.
  • Operate a Work Assist Vehicle (WAV) and pallet jack.
  • Interpret instructions, reports and information.
  • Accurately handle cash register operations as needed.
  • Climb ladders as required.
  • Move merchandise efficiently and safely, lifting up to 15 lbs, occasionally up to 44 lbs without assistance.
  • Maintain flexible availability, including nights, weekends and holidays; reliable attendance required.
  • Remain mobile throughout the shift.
