Software Engineer, Backend Developer

Sweetwater, the nation’s #1 online retailer of pro audio equipment and music instruments, is seeking to hire a Software Engineer to add to our growing IT team! You will be responsible for accomplishing a variety of IT related tasks throughout the diverse Sweetwater enterprise. This work includes building and supporting cutting‑edge software solutions for both internal and external customers. You’ll be writing and supporting software for well‑defined tasks under the guidance of more experienced engineers, working in an AI‑augmented development environment from day one.

You’ll use AI coding assistants such as Claude and Cursor as part of your daily workflow while developing the judgment to verify their output, recognize limitations, and know when to ask for help. We are looking for candidates who are hungry for the next challenge, exhibit strong interpersonal communication skills, and take personal ownership of their projects. • Write clean, correct code for well‑defined tasks, following team patterns and best practices under the guidance of senior engineers
• Use AI coding assistants responsibly by verifying output, recognizing common failure modes, and never committing code you cannot explain or understand
• Participate actively in code reviews, incorporating feedback on your own work (including AI‑originated code) to continuously improve your skills
• Learn the team’s systems, tools, and infrastructure while gaining a solid understanding of the retail business function your team supports
• Participate in the team’s production support rotation with guidance, triaging and resolving straightforward defects using logs, dashboards, and runbooks, and escalating promptly when issues exceed your scope
• Ask thoughtful questions, identify and close knowledge gaps, and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and professional development
• Collaborate with team members to deliver features and fixes on schedule while maintaining code quality standards

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; a completed coding bootcamp; or equivalent practical experience
• Strong fundamentals in at least one modern programming language (Golang, Python, C#, PHP, JavaScript, or similar)
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Git Hub Copilot, or equivalent) and willingness to build proficiency quickly
• Ability to read, understand, and verify AI‑generated code before committing it, including recognizing common failure modes such as hallucinated APIs, subtle logic errors, and security issues
• Willingness to ask questions, receive feedback constructively, and learn from more experienced engineers
• Basic understanding of the retail business domain and genuine interest in learning who uses the systems you work on and why
• Solid communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
• 1-3 years of professional software development experience
