Balfour Beatty has an outstanding opportunity for a Project Director to the delivery of the new Lochaber Hospital in Fort William, a major healthcare development.
This is a career-defining opportunity to shape the project from its current pre‑construction phase, guide it through contract close and lead the subsequent construction, commissioning and handover.
We are open to applications from established Project Directors, as well as highly experienced Senior Project Managers who have successfully delivered complex healthcare projects and are ready to take the next step into a director‑level position.
Healthcare Construction Experience Is EssentialWhat you’ll be doing
Key ResponsibilitiesAs Project Director, you will hold overall accountability for the successful delivery of the project, providing strategic direction and visible leadership across a multidisciplinary team.
You Will- Lead the project through pre‑construction, contract close, construction, commissioning and final handover
- Develop and implement the overall project strategy, ensuring alignment with client and business objectives
- Build, lead and inspire a high‑performing team of Project Managers, Construction Managers, functional leads and technical specialists
- Establish strong and collaborative relationships with the client, healthcare stakeholders, consultants, subcontractors and supply‑chain partners
- Maintain overall control of programme, cost, quality, scope, risk and project benefits
- Lead project governance, performance reviews and senior‑level reporting
- Ensure robust commercial management, budget control and contract administration
- Drive the procurement and supply‑chain strategy to support successful project delivery
- Lead risk, opportunity and change‑management processes
- Champion the highest standards of health, safety, environmental performance and quality
- Create a positive project culture focused on collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement
You may already be operating as a Project Director, or you could be a Senior Project Manager who has led significant healthcare schemes and is ready to move into a broader leadership role.
You Will Need- Significant experience delivering major healthcare construction projects
- Experience working through both pre‑construction and construction delivery stages
- A successful track record on high‑value, technically complex projects
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, influence and develop multidisciplinary teams
- A strong understanding of standard construction contracts and commercial project management
- Experience managing project budgets, programmes, risks, procurement and supply‑chain performance
- The confidence to engage with senior clients, stakeholders and business leaders
- Excellent communication, decision‑making and problem‑solving skills
- The ability to create a clear project strategy and translate it into successful delivery
- A strong commitment to safety, quality and collaborative working
A construction or project‑management qualification, professional membership, SMSTS and an appropriate CSCS card would be advantageous.
