Position: 9-1-1 Dispatcher - Westover Hills

The dispatcher works under the general shift supervisor and Telecommunications Supervisor. This position fills a regularly scheduled dispatch shift in the Communications Center, providing assistance to Westworth Village when needed and other contracted cities from our communications center. In addition, this position performs routine office work, preparing and filing reports internally as needed.

General Dispatching duties include: receiving and dispatching radio calls along with telephone and 9-1-1 calls for police, fire, and medical services.

Telephones:
Administrative lines (2), 9-1-1 lines (5), TDD/TTY lines for the hearing/vision/speech impaired (1). These phone lines are ready for incoming police, fire and after hours city problems.

Radio:
Receive and transmit information for police, fire, and EMS. This radio system is capable of communicating with select other local agencies in times of mutual aid.

Job Duties /Responsibilities:
  • Receives emergency and non-emergency calls for service by phone and in person.
  • Process and evaluate information received and dispatch law enforcement and/or Fire/EMS, prioritizing all calls and the availability (number and types of personnel needed) to respond.
  • Tracks location and availability of police units; dispatches police units and/or forwards call to appropriate agency for response.
  • Prepares, processes and maintains accurate records and logs of all radio transmissions.
  • Monitor and control the movement of field units and provide appropriate and effective coverage in response to public safety emergencies.
  • Maintain and validate data in local, state and national computerized databases including the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC).
  • Correspond or communicate with other Cities, agencies, etc to confirm or request information of a valid offense report or other law enforcement matters.
  • Act as a liaison between the Westover Hills Police, Fort Worth Fire Departments, Med Star and other City departments and/or City or Government agencies as needed in response to a call for service.
  • Provide a shift account to the oncoming dispatcher & shift supervisors at shift change.
