Upper School Latin Teacher

Job Description

All Saints’ Episcopal School is currently seeking a dynamic, energetic, and collaborative educator who is passionate about teaching sections of Latin to students at all Upper School levels (Grades 9 to 12). The ideal candidate holds a master’s degree and has a minimum of three years’ experience teaching at an independent school with experience teaching Latin and the classics. A strong understanding of the importance of Latin and the classics to younger students, especially as a lens into their other studies, such as the connections between Latin and English grammar, Roman culture, and European history.

The ideal candidate will have enthusiasm to engage and lead the Upper School age learner in and out of the classroom. The candidate must have knowledge of teaching at various levels and courses as well as best practices for maintaining a positive learning environment. The teaching position calls for energy, optimism, enthusiasm, flexibility, patience, perseverance, and a sense of humor. It also requires the ability and willingness to learn from and collaborate with colleagues within the division and throughout the entire school.

Job Responsibilities

Teach multiple sections of Upper School Latin.

Provide integral and varied support, planning, oversight, and communication as an advisor to 9-12 students.

Teach student-centered Latin courses that emphasize inquiry and authentic assessment.

Create activities and lessons that center on skill-development and content acquisition.

Maintain a classroom culture that promotes civil discourse and student engagement.

Promote a positive and energetic learning environment while advancing the cognitive, emotional, and social well-being of the students.

Create and implement rigorous and engaging lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.

Differentiate instruction through learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students.

Integrate technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

Set clear short-term and long-term goals to drive instruction.

Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

Maintain open and effective communication with parents throughout the year as well as during Parent/Teacher conferences.

Be a team player and willing to help colleagues as needed.

Collaborate with department members to design innovative curriculum.

Participate in on-going curriculum review and revision, aligning content and learning objectives with the school’s mission and goals.

Serve on school committees as needed.

Enforce school policies and rules consistently.

Stay updated on current science education trends and best practices.

Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to curriculum improvement.

Participate in daily Chapel services and weekly Eucharist services.

Lead aUpper School Advisory Group and follow Advisor Expectations.

Required to use with technology and online platforms using 1:1 student device.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree;
Master's degree preferred in Education or Classics-related fields.
