Benesch is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Railroad Signal Designer to join our Railroad Grade Crossing team. The Signal Designer will be a design-centric role with the possibility of traveling to field sites as needed.
The ideal candidate for this position has 4+ years of railroad signal design experience and general rail design. Additional experience in railroad signal maintenance and construction will also be considered.
LocationPreference will be given to candidates located within a commutable distance from the Fort Worth, TX office. For the right candidate, we will consider someone outside of the DFW metroplex to work in a remote capacity or embedded in another Benesch office location.
Benesch’s Railroad Division is made up of highly skilled rail professionals, many of whom are former employees of operating railroads. This firsthand experience working on designing and maintaining active rail systems uniquely equips our team to develop innovative solutions to a wide variety of rail projects.
The Impact You Will Have
- Manage project scope and timelines, focusing on efficient design processes.
- Active involvement in design for Class 1, short line & regional, commuter, and/or transit railroads.
- Computer-aided design (CAD) understanding to direct project submittal formatting and plotting to client requirements.
- Implementation and verification testing of vital application logic for project success.
- Collaborate with railroad companies, highway authorities, and other key stakeholders to drive project success.
- Involvement in QA/QC oversight for project success.
- Conduct detailed analyses and investigations, documenting findings and generating comprehensive reports.
- Handle communications related to project issues and maintain regular updates on project progress and technical challenges.
- Uphold quality control standards and ensure timely completion of tasks within schedule constraints.
- Stay updated with relevant design standards and codes, applying them effectively across projects.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as needed to support the Project Manager and ensure project excellence.
- Bachelor’s in Electrical, Electronic, Computer or related engineering degree from an ABET-accredited university.
- 4+ years of railroad signal design experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft suite products (Excel, Teams, Outlook, Word).
- Proficiency in CAD programs, such as Micro Station and/or AutoCAD, in direct use and managing CAD drafting.
- Experience with railroad programmable logic controllers, such as Electrolog
IXS, Microlok, XP4, and Grade Crossing Predictors, will be a distinguishing factor. - Professional verbal and written communication skills for interaction with clients and project stakeholders.
- Ability to work overtime and travel (up to 5% of time) as-needed to meet deadlines or visit field sites.
- Ability to earn EIT and PE license required, if not already certified/licensed. #LI-VM1
