Join Otto Aerospace as a Senior Engineer, Non‑Destructive Testing (NDT) to contribute to the development of the world’s first fifth‑generation business jet. The role focuses on NDT of metallic and non‑metallic structures, process development, and certification support within the Materials and Processes department.

OTTO is developing the world’s first fifth‑generation business jet, designed for sustainability through the innovative use of advanced super‑laminar aerodynamics and high‑precision, net‑shaped composites. Flight tests of our technology demonstrator validate a dramatic reduction in fuel burn and allow a sizeable improvement in cabin comfort. Otto Aerospace is designing world‑class aircraft from first principles physics and delivering ground‑breaking aircraft and economic performance.

The successful candidate will join the Materials and Processes department, advising on material selection, authoring governing and test documents, and ensuring compliance with Otto prescribed requirements. The role involves working closely with manufacturing suppliers and overseeing materials and processes throughout the aircraft life cycle.

• Provide guidance on inspection of metallic and non‑metallic structures using NDT techniques.
• Develop, qualify and implement NDT inspection processes for composite parts and bonded joints using ultrasonic, X‑ray, thermal or other state‑of‑the‑art methods.
• Develop, qualify and implement NDT inspection processes for metallic parts using liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, eddy current or other state‑of‑the‑art methods.
• Author, review and approve NDT process specifications, technique sheets, inspection plans and reports.
• Review and approve engineering definition for release in the product lifecycle system (PLM).
• Review, guide and support certification programs for new, supplemental and experimental certification under 14 CFR Part 23 sub‑part C & D.
• Mentor junior team members.

We’re looking for an individual with strong technical knowledge of NDT and a collaborative mindset.

• B.S. in Materials Science, Physics, Engineering or equivalent.

• 7+ years of industry experience (or 5+ years with an M.S.).
• Knowledge of industry‑standard NDT processes for non‑metallic (required) and metallic (a‑plus) inspection.
• ASNT Level II or III certification (a‑plus).
• Experience with NDT process review, selection, development, and certification in aerospace applications for non‑metallic (required) and metallic (a‑plus) materials.
• Experience related to non‑metallic manufacturing defects and their impact on structural integrity.
• Experience authoring NDT inspection plans and findings reports.
• Experience planning, executing and documenting NDT inspections, including data collection, interpretation and validation.
• Knowledge of FAR Part 23 certification requirements and processes.
