Aircraft System Safety Engineer – Bell Flight

Join us as an Aircraft System Safety Engineer on the MV‑75 Future Long Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) program, a premier vertical‑lift military initiative. Bell’s MV‑75 will become the Army’s primary assault aircraft for the next 30 years, advancing tactical capabilities through cutting‑edge technology.

In this role you will integrate detailed aircraft system analysis with operational understanding, minimizing risks and maximizing safe operational employment of the fleet.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct systems safety engineering from concept through sustainment, identifying and analyzing potential hazards.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative hazard analyses of aircraft systems, subsystems, crew and maintenance procedures, and operational environments.
  • Plan, define, and verify system safety requirements; develop safety analysis artifacts to ensure design integrity and safety.
  • Administer safety activities for assigned Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), interfacing with customers and IPT teammates on safety issues.
  • Communicate safety engineering approaches, best practices, and results to internal and external stakeholders; mentor fellow engineers.
  • Support MBSE and MBSA practices to meet customer safety objectives.
  • Support Bell’s Safety Management System (SMS) for program risk tracking.
  • Establish software safety requirements per applicable standards and coordinate impacts with software safety engineers, SMEs, suppliers, and customers.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Proven analytical and problem‑solving skills; ability to work cross‑functionally on complex integrated systems.
  • Familiarity with SAE ARP‑4761 / ARP‑4754 or MIL‑STD‑882 safety processes.
  • Direct experience with SAE ARP‑4761 analyses: AFHA/SFHAs, PASA/PSSA/ASA/SSA, PRA, ZSA, CMA.
  • Direct experience with MIL‑STD‑882 analyses: PHA, O&SHA, HHA, SHA/SSHA, hazardous materials, FMECA, SAR.
  • Experience or training in MBSE/MBSA.
  • Experience with software safety standards (DO‑178C, MIL‑STD‑882, AMCOM
    385‑17, Joint Software Safety Engineering Handbook).
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to build and maintain relationships with customers and internal teams.
  • Technical and functional understanding of aircraft and aircraft systems; operational knowledge highly desirable.
What You Need to Succeed
  • Self‑starter motivated by the customer’s mission and committed to safety and success.
  • At least 2 years of experience on aircraft or system development/sustainment programs employing structured safety processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM (science, technology, engineering, or math). Relevant military or other experience may be considered.
  • Advanced degrees are viewed as a plus.
