SummaryAs a Mechanical Engineer III, you will research, plan, and design mechanical and electromechanical components for ASI’s autonomous unmanned vehicles, conduct testing, build prototypes, and coordinate fabrication, installation, and maintenance activities. You will work independently and collaborate closely with cross‑functional teams.
Responsibilities- Research and analyze data, including customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals, to determine feasibility of design or application.
- Design products or systems for robotic control using electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic principles and components.
- Participate in fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
- Coordinate operation, maintenance, and repair activities to optimize utilization of machines and equipment.
- Design products and systems to interface machines, hardware, and software.
- Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
- Contribute to design reviews.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 5–7 years of mechanical engineering experience.
- 5–7 years of machine and product design experience using Solid Works, Pro‑E, or CATIA.
- Proficient CAD skills in Solid Works or similar software.
- Extensive experience documenting design reviews.
- Proficiency in documenting requirements.
- Experience with finite element analysis.
- Ability to perform hand calculations of stresses.
- Experience with GD&T.
- Proficiency in math software such as MATLAB or Mathcad.
- Knowledge of failure modes and effects analysis.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with patent law.
- Understanding of software development.
- Familiarity with systems, heavy equipment, hydraulics, gearing, and motors.
