This role is responsible for managing critical equipment and materials for large capital projects. The Project Expeditor coordinates the timely delivery of equipment, materials, and supplies purchased directly or through an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) contractor. The position ensures that all technical requirements are met and that deliveries align with project specifications and schedules. This role requires the ability to develop expediting strategies, mitigate risk, and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
A degree of creativity, judgment, and adaptability is essential.
- Collaborate with internal and external engineering, construction, and project management teams to forecast needs and align procurement of equipment and services with project timelines.
- Coordinate with EPC procurement practices (sourcing, RFP/RFQ, bid analysis, negotiation, and order placement) to prepare expediting plans.
- Maintain continuous communication with vendors, contractors, and stakeholders regarding order progress and delivery status.
- Compile, record, and report on delivery timelines for equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Proactively identify and address delays or disruptions that may impact project schedules, while seeking opportunities to improve delivery performance.
- Work with procurement, warehouse, and logistics teams to track materials, resolve issues (e.g., shortages, damages), and ensure successful delivery.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors, evaluate performance, and resolve issues affecting quality and delivery commitments.
- Monitor market conditions, emerging products, and supply sources for assigned commodities to enhance procurement processes and project outcomes.
- Apply life-cycle cost analysis and other commercial methods to support procurement and project strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, engineering, business, or related field preferred (or 4 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree).
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant procurement/expediting experience.
- Several years of experience in EPC, construction, or engineering environments is essential.
- CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) and/or PMP (Project Management Professional) preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency with SAP, Excel, PowerPoint, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office products.
- High level of personal integrity and customer service focus.
- Ability to work independently, with confidence, speed, and minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated experience driving process improvements and facilitating change initiatives.
- Effective collaboration across supply chain, project teams, and support functions.
- Comfortable managing ambiguity with self-confidence and determination.
- Ability to act as a “change champion,” promoting new ideas and fostering innovation.
