TheWork
As a Staff Rotors Design Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and support of sophisticated rotor head systems that enable safe, high performance aircraft missions. You will work closely with analysts, material and process engineers, manufacturing engineers, test engineers, and suppliers to translate mission requirements into elegant, manufacturable solutions, leveraging both traditional machining and cutting edge additive manufacturing and composite technologies.
U.S. citizenship is required due to program security requirements.
- Lead the design, development, and validation of rotor head components—including bearings, seals, controls, hydraulics, and blades—using advanced manufacturing methods such as additive manufacturing and composites.
- Strategically manage engineering change processes, drawing revisions, and specification updates to ensure compliance with customer requirements and program schedules.
- Influence cross functional teams—analysts, material and process engineers, manufacturing, test, and supplier partners—to drive design closure and performance optimization.
- Apply advanced simulation tools (ANSYS FEA & CFD) to assess loading, dynamics, and structural integrity, ensuring safety and mission success.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on CATIA V5/3DX modeling, CAD best practices, and manufacturing considerations for aluminum, titanium, and steel parts.
- Develop and implement automation tools (VB macros, Python, MATLAB) to streamline complex engineering tasks and improve productivity.
- Ensure all deliverables meet Lockheed Martin’s business ethics, quality, and security standards.
You are a proactive senior engineer with deep expertise in helicopter drive systems and rotor design, capable of leading complex mechanical challenges and influencing cross disciplinary teams. Your strong problem solving skills, technical writing ability, and aptitude for automation enable you to deliver elegant, mission critical solutions.

Desired Skills- 15+ years of experience in helicopter drive systems or rotor design.
- Proficient with CATIA V5 and 3DX design tools.
- Experience with ANSYS FEA & CFD analytical tools.
- Experience with manufacturing aluminum, titanium, and steel parts.
- Able to create tools to streamline complex engineering tasks (VB Macros, Python, Matlab).
- Excellent verbal communication and technical writing skills.
