Associate Director Substance Use Intervention and Recovery Services
Texas Christian University is seeking an experienced professional to lead the Substance Use Intervention and Recovery Services. The Associate Director will provide administrative oversight, clinical supervision, and strategic leadership for comprehensive substance use intervention and recovery programs, including the Peer Support Programs and Communities of the TCU Counseling Center.
Job SummaryThe Associate Director of Substance Use Intervention and Recovery Services will be responsible for (1) providing administrative oversight and clinical supervision for substance use intervention and recovery programs; (2) supervising the Center’s Substance Use and Recovery Counselors, Peer Support Coordinators, and graduate trainees; and (3) serving as an informal supervisor to staff therapists who support a campus peer support community. Additional responsibilities include maintaining confidential student files, providing referrals to internal and external agencies, conducting presentations and workshops, managing program budgets, developing and submitting grants, fundraising, and serving on university committees.
Duties& Essential Job Functions
- Establish and implement goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures for intervention and recovery programs, administering quality assurance processes to maintain excellent student services.
- Provide supervision for a clinical team of Substance Use & Recovery Counselors and Graduate Practicum Students, and serve as a direct report for Graduate Assistants in the Department of Student Affairs.
- Support and facilitate the TCU Collegiate Recovery Program and student‑led support groups for those in recovery or affected by substance use.
- Provide vision and administrative oversight to expand peer support programs and act as liaison for counseling center staff who support a peer support community on campus.
- Conduct counseling services, individual alcohol and drug assessments, maintain confidential records, and provide referrals to agencies and practitioners, including the Health Center, Counseling Center, Office of Religious & Spiritual Life, and external community resources.
- Manage a dedicated budget for substance use and recovery programs, oversee expenditures and revenues, research and submit grants, and complete regular program evaluation reports.
- Fundraise and manage external funds such as donations and grants to support peer support programs.
- Recruit, train, and evaluate professional and student staff.
- Serve on various university committees and assist with additional Student Affairs programs as needed.
- Maintain professional knowledge by attending workshops, conferences, and reviewing publications.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Master's degree in counseling, social work, student personnel administration, or a related field.
- 3 years of experience facilitating substance use and recovery counseling and support groups, particularly in collegiate recovery.
- 3 years of experience supervising graduate trainees in counseling, clinical psychology, or a related field.
- Experience working in a clinical setting for substance use and recovery with a college student population.
- Experience making referrals and collaborating with rehabilitation facilities for alcohol and drug abuse.
Licensure/Certification /Specialized Training
- Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor in Texas.
- Licensed Professional Counselor eligible in Texas.
- Certified Prevention Specialist (CPS).
- Other relevant certifications.
- Strong attending, listening, and crisis-intervention skills.
- Knowledge of college student development and counseling theories.
- Knowledge of current alcohol and other drug, health, mental health, and social issues on university campuses.
- Sensitivity and ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Knowledge of Motivational Interviewing and BASICS techniques.
