Summary

The Laboratory Phlebotomist performs positive patient identification and collection of various laboratory specimens on inpatients and outpatients, as needed. Receives specimens into the lab reception area, inputs specimen information into the laboratory information system, and requests patient registration as necessary. Phlebotomists maintain specimen integrity during collection, transport, and processing. They communicate specimen issues to caregivers, provide customer service by greeting visitors, answering the telephone, transferring calls, faxing results, and assisting with specimen requirements.

The role also includes additional clerical or clinical duties as required by the service area.
