Job SummaryThe Infectious Disease Educator provides education to all levels of staff throughout JPS and/or TCHD on expansion of the infectious disease screening projects throughout JPS. This education includes infectious disease screening technologies, HIV/AIDS specific information, approaching the patient, meaning of screening results, methods of delivering results to the patients, required post‑test education, HIV/infectious disease resources within JPS and the community, and methods to connect HIV/AIDS/infectious disease patients to appropriate care.
EssentialJob Functions & Accountabilities
- Educates physicians, nurses, lab technologists, and support personnel with infectious disease grant program requirements.
- Participates in infectious disease educational offerings associated with general hospital orientation.
- Participates in infectious disease educational offerings associated with annual orientation of new physicians to the hospital district.
- Participates in infectious disease specific Grand Rounds presentations.
- Helps clinic personnel set up a system for directly linking Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) to appropriate HIV care.
- Educates physicians and nurses on the delivery of HIV, viral hepatitis, and/or syphilis screening results.
- Educates physicians and nurses on state laws governing post‑test patient education.
- Coordinates with the ED HIV Expansion grant site coordinator to ensure the expansion program meets the requirements associated with the protocol for utilization of grant funds.
- Participates in process improvement activities to ensure successful expansion of the infectious disease grant programs.
- Collaborates with Healing Wings for consistent network‑wide infectious disease communication and education.
- Provides training for and collaborates closely with JPS infectious disease Patient Navigators.
- Staff are expected to perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- 2+ years prior work experience with PLWHA and/or infectious diseases.
- 2+ years prior experience with HIV/AIDS/infectious disease education.
- Current JPS‑recognized CPR certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
- HIV/AIDS specific training.
- HIV, viral hepatitis and syphilis testing technologies.
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
