Job Summary: The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing direct patient care related to respiratory illnesses and diseases in all areas serviced by Respiratory Therapy including neonatal, infant, children, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric populations.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
- Administers routine respiratory therapy procedures per physician orders.
- Maintains artificial airways, assists with intubation, tracheostomy change and decannulation.
- Performs arterial puncture and analysis.
- Assists with cleaning, sterilization and reassembly of equipment.
- Initiates, monitors and maintains continuous mechanical ventilation per physician orders.
- Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other emergency respiratory therapy procedures as necessary.
- Documents respiratory therapy procedures per policy in the patient medical record.
- Provides instruction to patients on the respiratory therapy modalities ordered by their physician.
- Evaluates patients’ clinical conditions and provides suggestions and recommendations for therapeutic procedures to meet patient treatment processes.
- Assists with chart audits and quality improvement reviews.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) with a minimum associate degree.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
- Licensure by the Texas Medical Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
- Current JPS recognized BLS certification, maintained throughout employment.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 90 days of hire.
- OR:
Six (6) or more years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (in lieu of an associate degree).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Allied Health or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.
- 2 years clinical experience in a critical care setting.
