Job DescriptionJob Summary: The Certified Phlebotomist PRN collects and prepares for transport laboratory samples taken from patients seen in ambulatory health centers and clinics.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities- Collects specimens by venipuncture and micropuncture on neonates, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics, using phlebotomy supplies and techniques appropriate to the patient and test specifications, preparing specimens for transport.
- Performs special collection procedures, such as timed tests, including those requiring oral ingestion of prescribed substances, and prepares specimens for transport.
- Maintains age-specific knowledge and interaction skills with staff, patients, families, and visitors.
- Demonstrates courteous, professional behavior in interactions with patients, families, and staff.
- Explains procedures to patients and/or family members prior to initiating the process.
- Inputs and retrieves laboratory information via LIS/HIS computer systems.
- Adheres to Network, Division, and Department policies, procedures, Code of Ethics, Compliance, HIPAA, and safety standards.
- Performs other job-related duties as required; work may change with or without notice.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be a Certified Phlebotomist (CPT) through ASCP, AMT, or NHA.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 6+ months of clinical phlebotomy experience.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification (BCLS).
