The Dietary Staff member assists in all dietary operations, including meal service, cleaning, food preparation support, and sanitation tasks. This role helps ensure that nutritious, appealing meals are served safely and efficiently in accordance with dietary policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Food Service & Meal Preparation
- Serve meals that are appetizing, properly portioned, and visually appealing.
- Assist in preparing meals, snacks, beverages, and special events as directed.
- Set up and break down food carts, dining areas, and meal trays.
- Distribute and collect menus, trays, and food carts as needed.
- Check and verify diet trays for accuracy before distribution.
- Prepare and deliver snacks following diet requirements.
- Clean worktables, food prep areas, refrigerators, freezers, and storage areas.
- Wash, sanitize, and store dishes, utensils, and equipment properly.
- Sweep and mop floors to maintain a safe, clean environment.
- Carry out garbage and maintain dry, hazard-free work areas.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, labeling, and rotation of food and supplies.
- Follow all infection control, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
- Maintain proper inventory, assist with receiving and storing supplies.
- Make only approved food substitutions.
- Assist in maintaining department security and preventing foodborne illnesses.
- Report concerns, equipment issues, and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Work cooperatively with dietary leadership, nursing, and other departments.
- Provide excellent customer service to residents and families.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Pleasant, patient, and professional demeanor when interacting with residents and staff.
- Ability to work safely, maintain cleanliness, and handle equipment properly.
- Strong teamwork and multitasking skills.
- Willingness to learn and implement new dietary practices.
- Work performed indoors with frequent interruptions.
- Regular interaction with residents, staff, families, and visitors.
- Exposure to heat, noise, cleaning chemicals, and kitchen equipment.
- May need to work weekends, holidays, evenings, or extended hours.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and move equipment or supplies up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to move continuously throughout the workday.
- Must handle emotional and physical stressors professionally.
- Able to assist with resident evacuation if needed.
