The Youth Care Specialist (YCS) oversees the physical care of the facility, the daily supervision of clients and provides basic needs, medical and emotional care, and overall safety of clients in care. The YCS provides a supportive learning experience and empathic adult guidance to clients, delivering services within a Trauma‑Informed Care framework and assisting clients to achieve their goals and family reunification.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver supportive care and supervision to youth and families in a residential setting.
- Provide basic needs, medical and emotional care, and ensure overall safety.
- Implement Trauma‑Informed Care and Positive Youth Development strategies.
- Assist clients to build on strengths, create solutions, and discover hope for their future.
- Work in other units or on call as directed by supervisor.
- Maintain confidentiality, follow policies related to personnel and client records.
- Complete client intakes, develop Preliminary Plan of Service, and conduct house meetings.
- Attend shift‑change meetings, transport clients to appointments, and perform meal preparation, laundry, and general housekeeping.
- Document required reports, incident logs, medical paperwork, medication administration, and complete training hours.
- Collaborate with TDFPS, caseworkers, family, and other support systems to advocate for clients.
- Work with volunteer organizations, build relationships, and represent ACH professionally.
- Maintain safety, confidentiality, and protection of clients throughout shifts.

Exposure to children with behavioral problems, including possible physical aggression, illness and blood. Residential programs run 24/7, 365 days a year, do not close for holidays or inclement weather. Requires extended walking and standing, physical ability to use authorized crisis intervention techniques.
Requirements- Education:
High school diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree in a human service field preferred. - Experience:
Six months of direct care and positive guidance experience with youth, young adults, or families in a residential or professional setting. Effective listening, communication skills, and understanding of children, youth, and families in crisis. - Valid Texas driver’s license within 90 days of establishing Texas residency.
- Acceptable driving record.
- Successful completion of a behavioral management de‑escalation course.
