Overview
The Reproductive Health Assistant (RHA) provides comprehensive health education and direct patient care in a clean, safe and comfortable health center. The RHA delivers high‑quality, responsive and efficient patient care, supports the organization’s strategic plan and workplace inclusion initiatives, and maintains productivity, customer service and compliance standards.
Responsibilities- Perform direct patient care, including greeting patients, obtaining medical history, providing education on abortion, birth control, sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy, and delivering pregnancy options counseling.
- Accurately take vital signs, demographic information and medical history; perform venipuncture and intramuscular injections; and support clinicians with lab testing, vital signs and reviewing test results.
- Maintain medical supplies inventory, lab specimens, sterilization, temperature and cleaning logs, and ensure all equipment is stocked and functioning.
- Provide patient education sheets, informed consent forms and translate materials for limited English proficient patients.
- Triage phone calls, review electronic practice management (EPM) and electronic health records (EHR) alerts, and advise patients on follow‑up status.
- Support front office duties: greet guests, manage phone calls, schedule appointments, check‑in patients, complete daily closing procedures, and maintain revenue handling policies.
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement by reporting incidents, completing incident reports and maintaining patient confidentiality.
- High school diploma or equivalent and at least 1 year of customer service, healthcare or social services experience (an advanced degree may substitute for up to 1 year of experience).
- Preferred:
Medical Assistant, Certified Nurse Assistant, Phlebotomy, EMT certification, or equivalent, and experience with EPM/EHR systems.
- Must be able to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach and grasp; stand for sustained periods; work primarily with fingers, lift up to 20 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently.
- Work all health center hours, including evenings and weekends; travel to support other locations.
- Fluency in Spanish/English may be required.
- Strong organizational, communication and teamwork skills; initiative, judgment and problem‑solving abilities.
- Comprehensive customer service orientation; ability to maintain confidentiality and provide equitable care.
Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office, Internet, and willingness to adapt to new technology. Commitment to superior customer satisfaction.
