Lead Security Engineer, Cloud Security

Overview

Lead Security Engineer, Cloud Security – responsible for safeguarding Circle’s cloud infrastructure and applications. You’ll embed security into every layer of our technology stack, leading projects, influencing engineering teams, and staying ahead of evolving threats in a dynamic fintech landscape.

• Lead cloud and application security initiatives with engineering, product, and infrastructure teams
• Integrate security controls and testing into CI/CD pipelines to detect and prevent vulnerabilities early
• Design and implement secure authentication, authorization, logging, and monitoring mechanisms
• Conduct threat modeling, code reviews, and architecture assessments for new and existing systems
• Manage vulnerability discovery and remediation workflows using tools such as Wiz or equivalent cloud‑native platforms
• Partner with third‑party vendors for penetration tests and security assessments
• Investigate escalated security events, triage incidents, and identify root causes
• Research emerging threats, especially in blockchain and cloud‑native environments, and adapt practices accordingly
• Contribute to security awareness and training initiatives to uplift secure development practices across engineering

• 7+ years of security engineering experience, focusing on cloud and application security
• Proven track record leading security projects and influencing decisions in complex technical environments
• Hands‑on experience with cloud security platforms (e.g., Wiz, Orca, Prisma Cloud) and public cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP)
• Strong understanding of SAST, DAST, IaC scanning, and the secure software development lifecycle
• Familiarity with container and orchestration security (Kubernetes, Docker)
• Experience designing detection logic, security controls, and automated guardrails
• Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language (Python, Go, JavaScript, etc.)
• Ability to work cross‑functionally, lead initiatives, and prioritize in a fast‑paced environment

• Experience in fintech, crypto, or blockchain space
• Familiarity with cryptographic fundamentals and blockchain‑specific threat models
• Experience with Terraform, Rust, Solidity, or Move
• Relevant certifications (CCSP, OSCP, CISSP, CEH)
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Cybersecurity, or equivalent experience

Base Pay Range: $172,500 - $227,500 (starting pay determined by relevant experience, skill set, qualifications, and other business and organizational needs). Compensation ranges may differ for candidates in other locations.
