Commercial Litigation Associate – Job Description (Texas)
Position Overview
The Commercial Litigation Associate will support the firm’s Litigation Practice Group in representing businesses and individuals in complex civil disputes across Texas. This role involves handling cases in both state and federal courts, managing discovery, drafting motions, and contributing to trial strategy. The ideal candidate has strong analytical ability, excellent writing skills, and experience with business‑related litigation.
Key Responsibilities- Represent clients in a wide range of commercial disputes, including breach of contract, business torts, real estate litigation, consumer claims, construction disputes, UCC matters, and partnership/shareholder conflicts.
- Draft and respond to pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and briefs.
- Conduct depositions of parties, witnesses, and corporate representatives.
- Prepare for and participate in hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trial.
- Perform complex legal research and provide strategic analysis on litigation issues.
- Manage case files and deadlines for multiple matters simultaneously.
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, courts, and internal team members.
- Assist senior attorneys with trial preparation, including witness outlines, exhibit lists, and pretrial motions.
- Support clients in evaluating business risks and developing pre‑litigation strategies.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Active license in Texas (in good standing).
- 1–5 years of commercial litigation experience preferred (adjust as needed).
- Strong understanding of Texas civil procedure and federal court practice.
- Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills.
- Experience with hearings, depositions, and dispositive motions preferred.
- Ability to analyze complex business disputes and provide clear, practical advice.
