Machine Parts Inspector A - 2nd Shift (335182)
Responsibilities- Determine by visual examination and measurements with precision instruments, gauges, etc., adherence to blueprint specifications and proper workmanship standards on machined parts, excluding gears and gear-type parts.
- Perform complex layouts and setups on surface plate and check measurements to close tolerances.
- Inspect parts made from various materials (steel, aluminum and alloys, brass, bronze, etc.) including bolts, die castings, sand castings, forgings, extrusions, purchased parts, brake cylinders, and oleo struts.
- Determine correct inspection procedures, devise methods for new machine parts, and recommend improvements in procedures and practices.
- Assign duties to lower-grade Inspectors, instruct on methods, and check work for accuracy and completeness.
- May be assigned to any phase of machined parts inspection in Receiving Inspection, including acceptance of vendor-made machined parts, forgings, and castings, after verification to specifications by layout or other inspection procedures (excluding gears and gear-type parts).
- Use inspector tools and equipment including hand tools, precision measuring instruments, special testing and alignment devices, precision gauges, templates, and material testing equipment.
- 3 years of machinery shop practice or machine shop inspection or equivalent, preferably in the aircraft industry.
