Position Overview

The Sanitation Supervisor is responsible for leading the sanitation team to ensure the facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and audit‑ready condition. This role requires strong leadership, sound judgment, and the ability to make informed decisions with limited supervision. The Sanitation Supervisor holds the team accountable to sanitation, food safety, SQF, and OSHA requirements and communicates daily sanitation performance and issues to cross‑functional stakeholders.

Responsibilities,

Skills, and Experience
  • Lead and supervise the sanitation team, setting clear expectations and holding team members accountable for performance, attendance, and safe work practices.
  • Plan, assign, and verify completion of daily sanitation tasks to meet SSOPs, GMPs, SQF requirements, and production start‑up timelines.
  • Demonstrate strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills; address sanitation issues in real time and
    ** escalate risks
    ** appropriately.
  • Ensure proper chemical handling, labeling, storage, and use; maintain compliance with OSHA, PPE, and safety requirements.
  • Conduct pre‑operational and operational inspections of equipment and facility cleanliness; document findings and corrective actions.
  • Maintain sanitation records, daily logs, chemical inventories, and verification documentation; ensure documents are accurate and audit‑ready.
  • Coordinate with Production, Maintenance, and Quality to ensure equipment design, disassembly, and cleaning methods achieve effective sanitation and efficient start‑ups.
  • Provide coaching, training, and ongoing supervision to sanitation staff, including onboarding and refresher training.
  • Initiate and track corrective actions and continuous improvement projects to improve sanitation effectiveness, labor efficiency, and safety outcomes.
  • Perform and document periodic inventory counts; requisition and distribute sanitation supplies and tools as required.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with cross‑functional teams; send out daily sanitation updates summarizing accomplishments, issues, corrective actions, and readiness for start‑up.
  • Ensure all food safety and quality protocols are followed, including FDA and SQF requirements.
  • As needed, on weekends, and provide coverage to ensure sanitation requirements are met.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
  • Experience with GMP’s, HAACP, sanitation, process improvement, plant safety programs, GFSI, and quality assurance.
  • Education Requirement:
    Minimum High School diploma or its equivalent
  • Previous supervisory experience required
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand for extended periods while overseeing sanitation processes or supervising staff.
  • Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 30 lbs.
  • Capability to bend, crouch, reach, and move freely throughout the facility to inspect equipment or access hard‑to‑reach areas.
  • Capacity to perform repetitive actions such as scrubbing, wiping, or using cleaning tools.
  • Ability to work in varying temperature conditions, including cold, hot, or humid environments.
  • Ability to handle and use chemicals safely, following OSHA and PPE guidelines.
  • Visual acuity to inspect the cleanliness and physical conditions of equipment and facilities.
  • Flexibility to work outside of standard scheduled hours, including nights, weekends, or overtime, if needed.
Other Duties
