Job Summary and Qualifications Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision, the Staff RN provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Medical Center of Lewisville.
  • Collaborate with patients, families and other members of the health‑care team to assess nursing care needs, plan interventions, and evaluate outcomes of care.
  • Supervise nursing care of LVNs and non‑licensed nursing staff.
  • Provide care consistent with the Nursing Department’s policies, procedures, and standards of practice.
  • Assume charge duties, making patient assignments and supervising staff and unit activities for the assigned shift.
  • Participate in hospital or departmental performance improvement activities.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care needs of patients.
  • Document nursing care in compliance with policies, procedures, and practices established by the Nursing Department and the hospital.
  • Initiate prescribed treatment plans and carry out nursing care plans of care.
  • Administer medications, blood and blood products.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living.
  • Conduct accurate and timely assessments of patients utilizing FIM scoring.
  • Transport patients as needed.
  • Maintain peripheral and central lines, PICC lines, and Medports.
  • Manage postoperative pain and neuraxial analgesia.
  • Manage traction and orthopedic conditions.
  • Manage general surgery and medical patients.
  • Assess and treat postoperative complications.
  • Provide pre‑operative and postoperative nursing care and education related to specific surgical procedures.
  • Participate in discharge planning.
  • Provide emotional support for patients and families based on coping skill assessments.
  • Perform nursing care in compliance with safety policies and procedures established by the hospital and Nursing Department.
  • Perform special assignments as needed or requested.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to department staff, students, volunteers, and other departments, contributing to teamwork essential to ensuring quality patient care.
