Work hours:

Full-time, 36 hours weekly, 3-12 hours shifts, 7:00 pm - 7:00 am

Department highlights

• 28-bed Medical PCU department
• Intermediate level of care to a wide variety of medical patients at a 3:1 patient to nurse ratio.
• This patient population requiring specialized monitoring and interventions, includes patient diagnosis such as: diabetic keto acidosis (DKA), respiratory compromised patients that require specialized equipment including continuous respiratory interventions, home ventilation systems, and tracheostomy care, multi-system organ failure, respiratory distress, sepsis, hematology, GI Bleeds, Renal/Liver Failure, Acid-Base and Electrolyte Imbalances, and cardiac abnormalities.
• Medication management includes continuous and titratable IV medications to support the intermediate care population.
• MAGNET facility
• Level I Trauma Center
• Primary Heart Attack Center PHAC

Here’s What You Need

• Nursing Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
• Current RN licensure or compact licensure recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire
• BCLS - prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
• ACLS - within 90 days of hire required
• CPI - Crisis Prevention Intervention Training - within 90 days of hire
• 1-year experience as a registered nurse or completion of an RN residency program required
• PCU experience preferred - will consider Tele and Med/Surg experience

• possess a strong work ethic and always display a high level of professionalism
• have basic computer skills using medical management application systems

What You Will Do

Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process

• assesses the patient
• plans the care of the patient
• intervenes as appropriate
• evaluates the effectiveness of interventions
• Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
• Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information
• Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers
