Job Description

YMCA Camp Carter is seeking enthusiastic and engaging Outdoor Education Instructors (Naturalists) to join our Program Team. This part‑time seasonal position delivers hands‑on, experiential learning to school groups, retreats, and community organizations in our 360‑acre outdoor classroom.

Outdoor Education Instructors help bring science and nature to life through environmental education classes, team‑building activities, and outdoor adventure programs. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals passionate about youth development, outdoor learning, and connecting people with nature.

Responsibilities
  • Teach environmental science, outdoor living skills, and natural history programs to school and community groups.
  • Lead team‑building initiatives and low ropes/challenge course activities (training provided).
  • Serve as a positive role model while ensuring the safety and well‑being of all participants.
  • Assist with program preparation, cleanup, and care of teaching spaces and equipment.
  • Provide excellent customer service and engage participants in fun, educational experiences.
  • Support other camp program areas as needed, including evening programs and group retreats.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Passion for the outdoors, education, and working with youth.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and group management skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekdays, evenings, and occasional weekends.
  • Ability to hike, lift up to 40 lbs., and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Prior experience in education, environmental science, recreation, or camp is helpful but not required. Training provided.

Pay Rate
: $10-13/hour (based on experience)
