Residential Monitor

Job Summary:

The Residential Monitor is responsible for monitoring the functional operation of the residential program and facility in accordance with VOA-TX policies and procedures and sponsoring agency requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Maintain the overall security and operational control of the assigned facility.

Maintain chronological written records of events that occur during the shift.

Monitor client movements inside and outside the facility.

Control contraband in facility through general observation, facility searches, and client searches.

Ensure facility cleanliness by assigning and monitoring client work, morning duty, and extra duty assignments.

Observe client behavior and report to the Residential Monitor-Shift Lead in a timely manner any situations that are irregular or exceptional.

Obtain urine specimens and breathe samples to monitor client substance usage.

Perform partial intake on new clients.

Make periodic tours of the facility and the grounds to ensure high level of security by observation and corrective action, if necessary. Monitor number of clients and their activities.

Monitor visitor activities.

Ensure clients observe all fire and other safety measures. Conduct monthly fire drills.

Secure and inventory personal possessions of clients who leave the facility.

Assist clients in the utilization of public transportation.

Assist in the serving of meals as appropriate.

Monitor main and secondary entrances to the facility and answer telephones.

Attend all staff meetings and training as directed.

Ensure compliance with VOA-TX policies and procedures, standard operating procedures, and sponsoring agency requirements.

Monitor, observe, and record client self-administration of medication.

Transport clients in agency vehicles to and from scheduled activities as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not have direct organizational supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Must be willing to work some evenings and weekends (flexible work scheduling to meet needs of organization/clients)
If driving frequently for VOA-TX business:

MVR background check (good driving record)
Valid Texas driver’s license

Criminal and educational background check

Approval from TDCJ to work in TDCJ-funded programs is required.
