- Prepares surfaces for painting, including sanding and removing old paint, filling holes, cracks, and joints with appropriate filler; tapes, floats, and textures walls and ceilings.
- Paints surfaces, using brushes, spray gun, paint rollers, or other methods to achieve required effects. Stains, seals, and varnishes wood surfaces. Surfaces include interior and exterior walls, glass, plaster, brick, stucco, cement, wallboard, woodwork, and metalwork of buildings and equipment (tables, cabinets, rooms, halls, auditoriums, roofs, fences, playground apparatus).
- Mixes paints to match specified colors, blends and applies finishes including oil- or vinyl-based paints and other finishes.
- Erects rigs, scaffolding, swing stages, extension ladders, or uses hoists for tasks above ground level.
- Picks up and delivers painting supplies to campuses; maintains delivery records.
- Receives and completes work orders; identifies and completes needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment; maintains records of materials and labor used.
- Maintains inventory of tools and assists with inventory control of materials and equipment.
- Inspects jobs after completion and ensures areas are clean; performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensures safety of equipment in operation.
- Follows established safety procedures and techniques; lifts, climbs, and operates tools and equipment safely; reports unsafe conditions to supervisor.
- Education: Accredited High School diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency.
- Certification/License: Clear and valid Texas Driver's License.
- Experience: 3 years’ experience as a painter.
- Additional Requirements: Employees must provide necessary personal tools to perform assigned duties. FWISD is prohibited from replacing stolen or broken personal property. Must be at least 21 years old. No positive drug or alcohol tests (including pre-employment, random, post-accident, or reasonable suspicion).
- Knowledge of painting equipment, materials, methods, and tools; ability to mix paint to match colors; awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions; knowledge of safe handling and storage of painting materials.
- Knowledge of brush, roller, and spray painting practices; ability to apply paints and finishes to various materials; ability to prepare surfaces for painting or finishing.
- Ability to read and understand manuals, safety precautions, MSDS, work orders, and instructions; strong interpersonal skills; ability to organize and coordinate work; effective written and oral communication; teamwork and customer service orientation.
- Ability to work at various heights and to engage in self-evaluation for professional growth.
- Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Environment:
Works inside and outside, at heights, with exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, chemicals, noise, and other hazards; may work alone; irregular or extended hours; district wide travel.
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard carpentry tools, power tools, measuring instruments; light truck or van.
- Posture: Prolonged standing, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, twisting.
- Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding; repetitive hand motions; driving.
- Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying 45 pounds and over daily.
- Environment: Outdoor/indoor work with hazards including extreme temperatures, dust, chemicals, noise, and poor ventilation/lighting; work at heights; district wide travel.
- Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance required.
- Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; able to handle interruptions.
