We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for an Maintenance Controls Technician in Fort Worth, TX to help support our Flooring business. Did you know Leggett & Platt Inc. is the largest manufacturer of carpet cushion and hard surface underlayment in the United States? Our Flooring businesses manufacture and distribute foam, rubber, and fiber-based flooring underlayment for residential and commercial use.

Our flooring underlayment products provide support, cushioning, and noise reduction under virtually any finished flooring material in your home or business. If you join our team, your work will ensure people across the world have a little more comfort in their lives.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being on the plant floor solving problems, troubleshooting equipment, programming PLCs, and supporting manufacturing operations in real time.

This is not a desk-based engineering role. The successful candidate will spend a significant amount of time working directly with production equipment, diagnosing electrical and controls issues, modifying and developing PLC programs, wiring and installing automation components, and partnering with maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and uptime.

We're looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and enjoys being the technical expert who keeps automated systems running efficiently.

So, what will you be doing as an Maintenance Controls Technician?
  • Troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment and automation systems.
  • Provide hands-on support for daily maintenance and production issues involving controls, electrical systems, drives, sensors, and HMIs.
  • Develop, modify, and debug PLC and HMI programs to improve equipment performance and reliability.
  • Perform electrical troubleshooting using schematics, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic tools.
  • Install, wire, test, and commission automation equipment, control panels, motors, sensors, drives, and related components.
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance activities on automated production equipment.
  • Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Work closely with maintenance, production, and engineering teams to minimize downtime and maximize machine performance.
  • Create and maintain documentation including electrical drawings, PLC backups, and troubleshooting records.
  • Support automation and controls projects at other Flooring locations as needed.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
  • B.S. degree in Engineering or equivalent preferred
  • 5+ years of hands-on industrial maintenance, controls, or automation experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong PLC troubleshooting and programming experience, including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Automation Direct, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working with HMIs, VFDs, motors, sensors, servos, and other industrial automation components.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control drawings.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical wiring, control panel modifications, and equipment startup activities.
  • Knowledge of motor control centers (MCCs), power distribution systems, and industrial electrical systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose complex electrical and controls issues under production conditions.
  • Willingness to travel 30-40% to support other manufacturing facilities.
Things we consider a plus:
  • Previous experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment in a maintenance capacity.
  • Experience commissioning new equipment and automation systems.
  • Background in continuous improvement, equipment reliability, and downtime reduction initiatives.
  • Experience in polymer, foam, chemical, or process…
