Software Engineer, Data Infrastructure & Acquisition

The mission of Speechify is to make sure that reading is never a barrier to learning. Over 50 million people use Speechify’s text‑to‑speech products to turn anything they’re reading – PDFs, books, Google Docs, news articles, websites – into audio, letting them read faster, more, and remember more.

We are a fully distributed team with no office, built by engineers from Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and many startup founders.

As a Platform Engineer on our AI and Data Infrastructure team, you will build and maintain backend services that power our text‑to‑speech engine, payments, analytics, subscriptions and ingestion pipelines. You’ll work closely with AI scientists to scale data acquisition, optimize cost and throughput, and build the roadmap for next‑generation models.

• Find new audio data sources and bring them into our ingestion pipeline.
• Operate and extend the cloud infrastructure (currently GCP) using Terraform.
• Collaborate with scientists to improve cost, throughput, and data quality for model training.
• Work with AI leaders to shape the dataset roadmap for Speechify’s consumer and enterprise products.

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years of industry experience in software development.
• Proficiency in Bash/Python scripting on Linux.
• Experience with Docker, Infrastructure‑as‑Code, and at least one major cloud provider (GCP).
• Background in web crawling or large‑scale data processing is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and ability to juggle multiple priorities.
