Position: SPO 24R - Resource/Out of Care Worker (Growth)

The Team

The Resource and Out of Care Team is a diverse and collaborative group dedicated to ensuring children and youth in care have safe, supportive homes and that foster families and out of care caregivers receive the resources they need. This small, hardworking team includes Resource and Out of Care Workers, a Team Leader, and a Social Program Officer Assistant, blending the expertise of seasoned professionals and the fresh perspectives of newer members.

By working closely with other Ministry of Children and Family Development service delivery teams including Guardianship and Child Protection, community agencies, and local Indigenous Nations, the team demonstrates creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork to make a meaningful impact in the lives of local children, youth, and families.

The Role

As a Resource and Out-of-Care Worker, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring every child and youth has a safe and supportive place to call home. From recruiting and maintaining a network of care, to assessing and approving out-of-care placements, your work will directly impact the lives of children and youth by promoting stability and permanency. Qualifications

Applicants may be considered who meet the preferred OR expanded credentials and experience requirements.

Preferred Credentials
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work or in Child & Youth Care OR Master’s Degree in Educational Counselling Psychology/Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology with completion of a practicum in family and child welfare
  • In-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who have a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA)
  • A candidate may be considered equivalent when they are registered and a member in good standing with the BC College of Social Workers or has a letter from the College confirming that their application for registration has been approved.
    • NOTE:

      If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a comprehensive report and the MCFD supplemental report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
Expanded Credentials
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services field OR Bachelor’s Degree with a Major/Honors in a Human Services field OR Master’s level graduate Certificate/Diploma in a Human Services field AFTER the completion of an unrelated Bachelor’s Degree.
  • PLUS, a minimum of one year of related or job-specific work experience.
  • Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
    • NOTE:

      If this education was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

Human Services fields include:
Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Anthropology, Early Childhood Education, Indigenous Studies, Education, Theology or Nursing.

Preferred Applicant Preferences
  • Preferred education credentials AND/OR in-service Ministry of Children and Family Development employees who hold a regular SPO 24-30 base position that requires delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFCSA).
  • Completed Kinship Assessment Tool (KAT) training.
  • Experience using KAT assessment tools.
  • Applicants possessing SAFE home study certification and experience and Resource and Payment (RAP) experience of training.
  • Applicants eligible for delegation under the Child, Family and Community Services Act (CFSCA).
  • Who currently hold, previously held and are immediately eligible for C3 delegation under Child, Family and Community Service Act.
  • Applicants with 1 or more years of experience providing supports to caregivers.
