Job Overview
Under the guidance of the Aquatics Manager or their designate, you will play a key role in the operation of the Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre. As a Senior Aquatic Lifeguard/Instructor, you will support the Aquatics Manager by covering shifts, providing training, and maintaining high standards of safety and program quality. You will also supervise and guide lifeguards, instructors, and support staff to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all facility users.
Qualifications- Current National Lifeguard Award (Pool Option)
- Current Swim for Life Instructor Certification
- Current Standard First Aid certification
- Current Lifesaving Instructor Certification
- Minimum two of the following certificates (must be current):
- National Lifeguard Instructor Certification
- First Aid Instructor Certification
- Lifesaving Trainer
- Pool Operator Certification LevelII
- Current Aquatic Fitness Instructor Certification from a recognized organization
- Completion of Grade
12, or an equivalent combination of education and experience - One (1) year of experience in a leadership role at an aquatic facility
- Three (3) years of experience as a lifeguard/instructor
- Knowledge of Provincial Swimming Pool Regulation, Provincial Health, WCB OH&S programs
- Strong computer skills sufficient to obtain information from the municipal system and run stand‑alone word processing, database, spreadsheet, and communications applications
- Compliance with and approval of Security/Reliability Clearance and Criminal Record Search (including Vulnerable Sector)
- The ability to perform all duties outlined in a safe manner following established facility procedures, occupational, health and safety rules, violence in the workplace policies and W.C.B. regulations (i.e. WHMIS)
- Assist Aquatics Manager in the operation of the Aquatic Centre
- Provide lifeguarding and instruction
- Supervise swimming pool staff, including shift scheduling, staffing coverage, training development and delivery, and performance evaluation within fiscal parameters
- Assist in new program ideas and ensure that existing programs function efficiently
- Ensure that all staff members are familiar with operational guidelines and emergency procedures
- Maintain established records and provide facility reports as required
- Work with the Aquatic Supervisor to purchase and maintain inventory of program supplies
- Assist the Aquatic Supervisor with the recruitment process
