Position Title: Lifeguard/Swim Instructor

Location: Taylor District YMCA (9888 Cherry Ave W, Taylor, BC V0C 2K0)

Term: Temporary, Part-time

Hours: 4-24 hours per week

Shift: Shifts vary but include weekdays, evenings, and weekends

Start Date: May 27th, 2026

End Date: August 29th, 2026

Salary: $25.50 per hour

Reports To: Aquatics and Recreation Coordinator

Nature & Scope

The YMCA is a national leader in health, fitness, and aquatics. The Taylor District YMCA provides high quality aquatics programming, engages with the community and supports the development of lifesaving skills.

Major Responsibilities
  • Put in to action the principles and practice of lifesaving, lifeguarding and first aid
  • Observe patrons in the pool, enforce safety regulations and maintain safety in the facility
  • Willingness to complete swim instructor training
  • Be in accordance with all applicable provincial and YMCA Standards, policies and procedures
  • Help facilitate aquatics programming, plan activities for community events and birthday parties
  • Take payments for drop-in swims, punch passes and group bookings
  • Help keep the facility clean and in good condition
Qualifications – you bring
  • Current Standard First Aid certificate
  • National Lifeguard - Pool Option
  • Swim Instructor certification - preferred
  • Experience as a Lifeguard or Swimming Instructor - preferred
  • Access to reliable transportation or a vehicle
  • Demonstrated high level of customer service skills
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date
  • 3 professional references
